  • Visit a growing organic farm cooperative on Lake Atitlan, with a mission of helping to save Lake Atitlan, through ecologically appropriate agriculture

  • Work directly with the Mayan youth we are empowering into their fullest potential through our Youth Trade Skills program, meet and explore with Miguel and his family, the inspiration behind it all!!

  • Learn traditional weaving of the Mayan people, how to make chocolate, toast coffee, grow veggies and much, much more!!

  • Visit the incredible community of Quixaya, where an indigenous community reclaimed their ancestral lands 30 years ago, and using a mix of their ancestral knowledge and permaculture training, have create a paradise that has to be seen to be believed 

  • Learn about Mayan cosmovision and plant medicine, and how the ancient wisdom holds the key to a better future

  • Visit the our source provider at Finca Porvenir, where Laurent Maniet has created an abundant cacao forest

Neal Hegarty   Born from an Irish family with a background in dairy farming, he has worked in agricultural projects all over the world, including Australia and Colombia. He came to Guatemala five years ago to study write a thesis on the relationship between permaculture and traditional agricultural practices of the mayan people. He has been here since, working on many different Permaculture projects, before starting his own Permaculture farm, Granja Tzikin, with his two partners. He now manages his farm and farm to table restaurant, teaches in the Atitlan Organics permaculture teachers guild and work as a designer and consultant. He specializes in combining the teaching of permaculture with a focus on wider socio-political issues, and on encouraging students to develop new ways of thinking about old problems
